Minho Access Point: territorial cooperation and integrated mobility in the Pentágono Urbano

Pentágono Urbano is an urban network composed of the municipalities of Viana do Castelo, Barcelos, Braga, Guimarães and Vila Nova de Famalicão, with the main objective of promoting strategic cooperation between the five municipalities, strengthening territorial competitiveness and fostering more integrated and sustainable regional development.

In this context, Ubiwhere stands out as the project’s technological partner, bringing its expertise in digital solutions for smart cities, urban management platforms and connectivity to support intermunicipal coordination, contributing to a smarter, more efficient territory prepared to address the challenges of the digital transition.

The implementation of the Minho Access Point (MAP) has enabled access to data on a wide range of transport and mobility services across the Pentágono Urbano territory. MAP centralises and harmonises mobility data from the five municipalities, supporting intermodality and the integrated management of transport services.

Developed using Open-Source technologies and built on a robust, scalable web architecture, the platform uses CKAN for data management and publication and provides an API to ensure integration with the National Access Point (NAP) and other systems. The interoperability layer enables integration of data from multiple platforms and external applications, while the portal provides a mobility map with real-time information on parking, electric vehicle charging, bus networks, vehicle counting, and e-scooter services.

The Minho Access Point, a solution developed by Ubiwhere, is a strategic tool for mobility management in the Pentágono Urbano, reinforcing inter-municipal cooperation and supporting more informed, data-driven decision-making.
