1st Forum Invest Pombal: Ubiwhere fosters regional development through digital solutions to build smart cities
The 1st Forum Invest Pombal took place on the 8th of November, bringing together business leaders, local authorities and experts in Pombal to discuss the county's economic future and boost regional development. Ubiwhere was one of the technology organisations invited to share the role of technology in driving political decisions and encouraging urban development.
The 1st Invest Pombal Forum was a conference organised by the Municipality of Pombal in partnership with the economic newspaper ECO and focused on boosting regional development. This event explored strategies for economic growth and centred on discussing improvements to infrastructure, promoting sustainable practices and encouraging the creation of a local business ecosystem.
Innovation, sustainability and mobility were the themes covered at this conference, which featured Ubiwhere on the panel ‘Smart Cities at the Service of the Economy’ through the intervention of Paulo Duarte, our Project Manager. This session was also attended by Joaquim Castro Ferreira (Professor at the University of Aveiro) and Vítor Pereira (CEO of Zoom Global Smart Cities) and moderated by Diogo Agostinho (COO of ECO).
According to the economic newspaper ECO, this panel discussion mentioned the role of technology in making decisions based on concrete data, enabling more efficient and sustainable urban development. Paulo Duarte, Project Manager at Ubiwhere, gave the example of an innovative smart city project dedicated to tourism, the Turingranada, a project that serves as an example and can be applied to the various areas in a municipality, such as mobility and the economy. Concerning the global context, Paulo Duarte said there is a lack of historical data in Portuguese cities. In the opinion of Ubiwhere’s Project Manager, it is necessary to ‘guarantee that the data is held by the municipalities, because only in this way will it be possible to make better decisions and respond to the needs of the citizens’, as described in the economic newspaper ECO.
The 1st Forum Invest Pombal ended with the participation of Hélder Reis, Secretary of State for Planning and Regional Development, who addressed various dimensions of development, praising economic progress and regional cohesion.
