“Centro de Inteligência Turística Porto e Norte: Go Live”: Ubiwhere highlighted the importance of data, AI and analytics in the evolution of smart tourism

Ubiwhere

On the 9th of July, Ubiwhere took part in the “Centro de Inteligência Turística Porto e Norte: Go Live” event, held at Porto Business School. The initiative marked a significant milestone in the evolution of the Porto and North Tourism Intelligence Centre (CIT), representing the transition from the project's strategic vision to its practical implementation, with the public presentation of the platform developed within its framework. During the event, the project's achievements and the next steps for the CIT were presented.

The event marked the transition from vision to implementation and aimed to showcase the results achieved, demonstrate how data can support more informed, strategic and collaborative decision-making in tourism, present the platform’s functionalities and outline the next stages of the Tourism Intelligence Centre. It brought together partners, organisations and tourism professionals, encouraging a shared reflection on the role of data, technology and collaboration in creating value for destinations, businesses and institutions.

Ubiwhere was represented by João Pardinha, Project Manager, who took part in the session “The CIT: From Vision to Platform”, alongside Rita Marques, Project Coordinator and Director of the Tourism Futures Centre at Porto Business School. The session focused on the evolution of the project, from its strategic framework to the technological implementation of the platform, highlighting how tourism intelligence can support more informed, integrated and future-oriented destination management.

During the platform demonstration, João Pardinha presented the seven strategic domains that structure the Tourism Intelligence Centre: tourism demand, tourism supply, economic impact, mobility, sustainability, visitor sentiment and destination benchmarking. Throughout the presentation, he explained that, unlike conventional platforms based solely on statistical information, the CIT - Porto e Norte integrates data from multiple sources, including ANA Aeroportos, APDL, NOS and other organisations, enabling the generation of more comprehensive indicators and a more integrated view of tourism activity. Among the platform’s key features are the ability to identify the topics most valued by visitors, as well as the main sources of dissatisfaction. In addition, the CIT can forecast, up to one year in advance, both available air capacity and the number of seats already sold on flights arriving at the airport. These capabilities make the platform a valuable decision-support and strategic planning tool, enabling stakeholders to anticipate tourism demand well before visitors arrive.

The initiative also included the signing of collaboration agreements between Porto Business School, the Portuguese Tourism Confederation (CTP) and NEST – Tourism Innovation Centre, reinforcing their shared commitment to innovation and the digital transformation of the tourism sector. Ubiwhere’s participation in the “Centro de Inteligência Turística Porto e Norte: Go Live” event reflected its commitment to developing data-driven technological solutions with a tangible impact on territories, contributing to the modernisation of tourism and to the creation of tools that enable more strategic, collaborative and sustainable decision-making.
