Ubiwhere highlighted the role of smart platforms in urban mobility at the ‘Data in Transit’ Workshop
Organised by BGI Sustainable Ventures, in partnership with IMT – Institute for Mobility and Transport, the ‘Data in Transit: Indicators for Sustainable Urban Mobility’ workshop brought together experts, local authorities, start-ups and technology companies to explore the role of data in transforming urban mobility in Portugal. Ubiwhere was one of the invited entities, with our co-CEO, Nuno Ribeiro, addressing smart urban mobility.
‘How can data transform the future of cities?’ - This was the central question of this initiative organised by IMT - Instituto da Mobilidade e dos Transportes (Institute for Mobility and Transport), in collaboration with BGI - Building Global Innovators, EIT Urban Mobility and Famalicão City Council, which took place in the Casa do Território Auditorium on the 26th of November. It aimed to highlight the growing importance of data in defining mobility policies. Throughout the sessions, methods, tools, and experiences were presented that demonstrate how analysing indicators can improve urban planning, support strategic decision-making, and encourage more efficient and sustainable transport solutions. This workshop aimed to show how the use of mobility indicators can optimise urban planning, reduce congestion and promote more sustainable transport.
One of the highlights of the workshop was the presentation by Nuno Ribeiro, co-CEO of Ubiwhere, who participated in the panel discussion on ‘Mobility Observatories: Practical Examples from Portuguese Municipal Councils.’ Nuno Ribeiro addressed the potential of smart mobility platforms in supporting urban management, highlighting the Urban Platform by Ubiwhere as an example of a solution capable of integrating and transforming large volumes of information. He explained how this platform, based on open, interoperable standards, consolidates data from traffic sensors, municipal systems, transport operators, and government entities, enabling cities to monitor mobility flows in real time and act more informedly.
The panel also included experts such as Isabel Oliveira (AMT), Luís Martins (Transport Fund) and Vítor Moreira (Vila Nova de Famalicão City Council), who shared results obtained through mobility observatories implemented in various parts of the country, thus highlighting the positive impact of using data to create more sustainable mobility policies focused on the real needs of the population.
